Cloud Storage Services Aren’t As Perfect As You Think And Here Are 5 Big Reasons Why

I know you’ve not been living in a cave for the last few years, so you’ll know how popular cloud storage services are these days. Don’t be fooled into thinking they’re perfect even though it might seem that way and we can look at a few issues you might have to deal with so you’ll know what I mean.

Your account could get hacked

When you leave your data in the hands of another company you’re asking them to look after everything for you. Websites get hacked on a daily basis and if someone managed to hack your cloud storage company they might end up with your password. They could then mess around with your files for fun, steal them for their own gain, or just delete everything because they’re evil. Security is key and you should take it into consideration when choosing the right company to go with.

No access to the internet

There will be times when you don’t have access to the internet and guess what? When you can’t get online you obviously won’t be able to access your files until you scramble around to find an internet connection. Now that everyone has smartphones it’s unlikely that you’ll be stuck in no man’s land even if something goes wrong with your main internet connection, but it’s something to keep in mind as you can’t pull your files out of thin air when you might be desperate for them.

Everything is running slow

Once you have to access something from the internet the speed in which you’ll be able to do it will depend on your internet connection. There will be times when it feels like you’re waiting forever for a file to load, but luckily this shouldn’t happen often. It’s also a lot less likely to happen when you opt for a premium cloud storage service as their servers will be a lot faster. This isn’t the end of the world and you’ll still get what you need even if you need to wait a while.

Paying more money for extra storage

When you sign up for any cloud storage package you usually get free space that will allow you to save a ton of files, but eventually you will need to start paying a monthly fee for the storage space you use. Once you’ve bought an external hard drive you have no ongoing costs, but it’s not the same with cloud storage solutions so if you don’t want to end up spending lots of extra money you’ll need to keep the amount of data you save in the cloud to a minimum.

Accidentally deleting your data

You’ll hear lots of stories about companies accidentally deleting their customers data and once it’s gone it is sometimes impossible to get back, but that will depend on their set up. At least when you have a copy of your data on your own hard drives you can blame yourself when something goes wrong, but if you log into your cloud storage account one day and nothing is there it must be heartbreaking. I guess the obvious solution in this case is to make sure you use the cloud and an external hard drive.
