Make Sure You Buy the Right Kind of Charging Cable for Your Smartphone

If you have a smartphone, you will also have a charging cable for it. Of course, it’s more than likely that you’ll need a replacement at some point because these things don’t last forever. This is when you need to make sure that you buy the right type of replacement cable.

Did you know, for example, that some charging cables are explicitly for charging and some are for data transfer? The two may look the same, but they actually do different jobs! You can even get some iPhone charger cables that can do both. How many of us have plugged in our iPhones or other smartphones to charge overnight and then woke up in the morning only to find that we used the wrong cables or that the connections between the end of the cable and the phone just weren‘t sitting right?

Sorting Out Your Cable Maze

Your home is probably like most homes today in that you have an entire corner dedicated to charging mobile devices. They could be mobile phones, tablets, or even other devices, but the cables usually get tied up together and knotted so that it can be difficult to sort them out. It’s a frustrating experience that plays out in most homes around the country these days, so what can you do to organise all of your cables so that they are easy to identify and find? Consider the following tips:

  • Cable ties: These handy little devices are available at many cheap shops, but you can also get them at hardware stores too. These allow you to tie bundles of cables together so that they don’t get mixed up and knotted together.
  • Cable tags: Cable tags wrap around each cable and can be labelled so that you know exactly what the cable is for. With so many charging and data cables around these days that look very similar, identifying which device each one is for is a good idea.

  • Unique cables: The third-party aftermarket for charging cables is huge. In fact, you can go online right now and find a retailer that sells charging cables that come in a wide range of colours. Some of them even come encased in patterned fabrics, so why not buy a bunch of cables of different colours and patterns that are each used for a different device? If multiple people in your family fight over the charging station, this is one way of helping to identify which cable does what.
  • Short cables: The biggest reason why cables get knotted together is because they are usually quite long. Undoing them can often be an exercise in frustration, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Instead of buying cables that are too long, why not buy short cables for your charging station? This means that the cables won’t get tied together and the whole area will look much tidier!

Ensure That You Buy the Right Charging Cable

With so many aftermarket options around today, you don’t necessarily have to go out and buy an expensive officially-branded charging cable. The biggest thing to remember is to buy the right cable for your device and ensure that it is for charging rather than data transfer.
